Cogs season ends in sectional championship

The Genoa-Kingston boys soccer team halftime lead didn’t hold up against Rockford Keith at the Class 1A Rockford Keith Sectional championship game as the Cogs lost 2-1.

Erik Tomlinson’s goal gave the Cogs (15-7-1) a 1-0 halftime lead. But that would not be enough. The Cougars scored twice in the second half to seal the Cogs’ fate.

“I am extremely proud of the way we played tonight,” Genoa-Kingston coach Randy Tate said. “The guys laid it all out on the field [Friday night]. We had some things that didn’t go our way, but we never quit battling. We had several opportunities near the end. but just couldn’t quite get the ball in the net.
