Homecoming Game Situation

August 31, 2012
By Dirk Campbell of Genoa-Kingston High School

As I know many of you have heard already, Rockford Christian informed us at our first BNC athletic directors meeting two weeks ago that they would only be fielding one level of football for this season. This was a shock to all of us in the room because one of the main reasons that we voted them into the conference was that last spring, they guaranteed us that they would have two levels of football. I have reached out to a large number of bigger schools in search of one that would have a sophomore B level team that they could send out here to be able to have a sophomore game for Homecoming on Friday, September 14th. Since most everyone in Northern Illinois plays on Friday nights and schedules have already been set for some time, I have had no luck in finding a sophomore opponent. That being said, we will have one game, varsity only, on Friday, September 14th and that game will kickoff at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, September 15th, our coaches and sophomore team have agreed to play Hampshire's JV team in a home game that will begin at 9:00 am. I apologize for this situation and the inconvenience, but we had no reason to expect that something like this was going to happen. Thank you.
