Cogs mesh with new coach

April 27, 2012
Genoa-Kingston High School

Genoa-Kingston boys coach Brent Bacon didn’t know his athletes would be able to adjust to their new head coach so easily when he took over for longtime coach Phil Jerbi this season.

“Coming in here after taking over the program, I thought there was going to be some rebuttal,” Bacon said. “But there’s been none of that at all.”

Bacon said the team’s attitude has improved since last year. He’s seen that attitude manifest when athletes ask him to try new events.

“Our attitude from this year to last year has changed,” Bacon said. “I have kids coming up to me and saying, ‘Hey coach, can I try hurdles?’ I’ll say, ‘Certainly, by all means.’ Surprisingly, they’re good at it. I say, ‘OK, we’ve tapped your inner track athlete now.’ ”
