Home » Girls' Softball NewsPrep Softball Preview CapsulesMarch 16, 2012 Genoa-Kingston High SchoolGENOA-KINGSON Last season: 25-2; Lost, 2-0, to Forreston in the Class 2A G-K Regional final Top returners: Paige Keegan, sophomore, catcher; Natalie Klein, junior, shortstop; Emily Wakeley, senior, outfield Ready for impact: Danielle Engel, junior, pitcher; Tori Hensley, junior, first base Outlook: Big shoes to fill for the Cogs, especially in the circle. Engel will get the ball, along with the unenviable task of trying to replace last season’s ace, Ashley Miller. But coaches and teammates have plenty of confidence. Miller even insisted Engel take her uniform No. 11 during the offseason, which she reluctantly accepted. That confidence, along with Keegan’s bat, should give the Cogs hope for another successful season. Lauer’s take: “I kind of challenged them a little bit, because this last group that went by last year, they were kind of their own group. We lost seven or eight kids right there. Then this is like a whole other group, which is a challenge for them to see where they can get to in the next couple years. But you can see that they’ve played together, and they enjoy playing together. When they get out on a softball field, you can see they’re going to have some fun.”
