November 8, 2008 By Michael Manno of Coconut Creek High School
Coconut Creek and its smothering defense were key in blanking host Coral Glades 34-0 Friday night.
With the win and Dillard victory over Ely, the Cougars clinch a playoff birth as the runner-up in District 15-5A. Coconut Creek (6-3, 5-1) will play at St. Thomas on November 21 in the first round of the playoffs. The Cougars will try to avenge a 38-0 loss to Aquinas in the Regional Finals back in 2006.
The Creek defense registered six sacks and held Coral Glades to 44 yards of total offense.
Justin Williams rushed for 45 yards to go along with 126 yards receiving.
Eric Wallace threw for 183 yards, while Marquis White rushed for two scores.
Coconut Creek will conclude its regular season next Friday at Douglas.
