Creek tops Northeast 10-7

Jordan Fowler came up big on both sides of the ball as Coconut Creek came from behind to beat Northeast 10-7 in a crucial District 15-5A matchup at Pompano Beach High Thursday night.
Fowler intercepted the ball twice and scored the game-winning touchdown with 5:15 left to play in the third quarter on a 23-yard pass from Eric Wallace on fourth-and-4.
The Cougars defense smothered Northeast for most of the night, allowing just 78 yards in the second half.
Coconut Creek (5-3, 4-1) got on the board in the second quarter as Rafal Walisiewicz nailed a 38-yard field goal.
Northeast (4-4, 2-3) responded later in the period as quarterback Audry Woodson scored on a 24-yard run after a Creek fumble.
With the win, the Cougars have clinched at least a three-way tiebreaker to determine the district winner and runner-up.
A Dillard win over Ely next week in the Soul Bowl will make Coconut Creek the runner-up in the district and would face St. Thomas on the road in the first round.
If Ely beats Dillard, the three teams will finish tied for first place and go to a tiebreaker to determine which two teams go to the playoffs.
Coconut Creek will travel to Coral Glades (1-7, 1-4) next Friday at 7pm. |
