Creek defeats Ely in huge district game

October 12, 2008
By Michael Manno of Coconut Creek High School

Coconut Creek relied on strong defense and a clutch touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to slip by visiting Ely 10-7 in a District 15-5A matchup at Pompano Beach High Saturday night.

The victory puts Creek at 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the district.  Ely falls to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the district

Trailing 7-3 early in the fourth quarter, Eric Wallace found Justin Williams for a 20-yard touchdown pass.  The extra point made it 10-7.

After a scoreless first half, the Cougars got on the board when Rafal Walisiewicz connected on a 38-yard field goal early in the third quarter to make it 3-0.

Ely came right back to take a 7-3 lead on a touchdown pass.

Creek\'s defense held Ely in check on its final two possessions to preserve the win.

The Cougars will host Stranahan in a District 15-5A game next Friday night at Lockhart Stadium.
