No. 12 Columbus North defeats Columbus East 178-191 in girls golf

Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Jaewon Jung shot a 43 Tuesday to lead the No. 12 Columbus North girls golf team to a 178-191 victory over Columbus East at Harrison Lake Country Club.
Classmate Allie Smith added a 44, while sophomore Sam McQueen carded a 45 as the Bull Dogs celebrated their Senior Day by concluding their dual-match season with an 8-2 record.
Freshman Sydney Anderson and sophomore Lauren Backmeyer each contributed a 46, while junior Emily Morris had a 47.
"We played steady, not great, but I was pleased to get the win," Columbus North coach Scott Seavers said. "Now we'll focus on the sectional. We hope to be at our best there."
Caroline Smith had a 45 for East, which placed second in the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament last Saturday. Morganne Wetzel added a 49, Erika Smith a 50 and Amanda Hashimoto a 51.
Columbus North has completed its regular season and returns to action at 8:30 a.m. Monday (Sept. 19) in the Bloomington North Sectional at Cascades Golf Course. Columbus East joins the Bull Dogs in the field of 11, which also includes No. 8 Center Grove, Whiteland and the host Cougars as top teams.
