BEDFORD, Ind. -- Taylor Fisher went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI on Saturday (June 4), but it wasn't enough for as the Columbus North softball team fell 8-1 to Avon in the semifinals of the Bedford Semistate.
Allie Piercefield chipped in a double and Brooke Caudill added a single for the Bull Dogs, but that completed their hitting as they closed their season at 18-11.
Avon reached CN starter Molly Crowe for two runs in the first. The Orioles extended their lead to 5-0 in the third, then added a single tally in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Bull Dogs notched their only run in the fourth, Fisher driving home pinch runner Alex Whirley.
Pendleton Heights beat Castle 1-0 in the other semistate semifinal. Avon (26-7) went on to defeat No. 10 Pendleton Heights 2-1 in the semistate final to earn a trip in the Class 4A state championship game next Saturday (June 11) against No. 1 Carmel (27-2).
