Columbus North draws a bye into baseball sectional semifinals

The Bull Dogs will play in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Monday, May 30 against the winner of a May 26 first-round game between Columbus East and East Central. Bloomington South and host Bloomington North will play in the other semifinal at 11 a.m. May 30.
The semifinal winners will play for the sectional championship at 6 p.m. May 30.
The sectional winner will advance to a four-team Class 4A regional on June 4 in Evansville. Sectional winners from Evansville North and Jennings County will play the first game, followed by sectional winners from Plainfield and Bloomington North. The regional final will be that evening.
The regional winner qualifies for a Class 4A semistate game to be played June 11 in either Plainfield or Jasper. The Evansville Regional winner will face the Avon Regional winner. The site for the semistate will be announced June 5.
The semistate winner will advance to the Class 4A state championship game, which will be played at 7 p.m. June 18 at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
Columbus North goes after its 12th baseball sectional crown in 45 seasons that the IHSAA has offered a baseball tournament. Its previous sectional titles, as Columbus High or Columbus North, came in 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1981, 1990, 1994 and 1995.
Bloomington South is the defending Sectional 14 champion. The Panthers are seeking their 17th sectional crown.
Bloomington North has won 14 baseball sectionals and chases its fourth in five seasons. The Cougars claimed sectional crowns in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
East Central has won six baseball sectionals, claiming its last one in 2006.
Columbus East has won 17 baseball sectionals but seeks its first since 1999.
Tickets for sectional games are $5 per session or $8 for an all-session pass.
