Shelton, Jones lead CN baseball past Perry Meridian 9-2

Shelton's performance included a double and paced a nine-hit attack for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in Conference Indiana. Perry Meridian fell to 9-7 and 2-2.
Junior Hunter McIntosh added a double, a single and two RBIs, while sophomore Coleden Hoeltke and junior Braden Pelley each contributed two singles and two RBIs.
Perry Meridian's Kyle Rupe singled home two runs in the first to give the Falcons an early lead, but Columbus North countered with four runs in the second to take the lead for good. Shelton's double to deep center field highlighted that outburst.
Jones (5-2) struck out eight and walked one while allowing five hits and two runs over the first five-plus innings. Junior Parker Shelton came on in relief, striking out three and yielding just one hit in the final 1 2/3 innings.
Columbus North is back in action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 11) when it visits Bloomington South for another conference game. The Bull Dogs then compete Saturday (May 14) in the Whiteland Invitational.
In the Whiteland event, Columbus North faces Whiteland and Elwood meets Fort Wayne Wayne in concurrent first-round games at 10 a.m. Third-place and championship games follow at about 30 minutes following the completion of the longer first-round game.
