Home » Girls' Basketball NewsSeymour tops Columbus North 59-55 in girls basketballDecember 15, 2010 Columbus North High SchoolSEYMOUR, Ind. -- Junior Amanda Moore scored 20 points to pace three players in double figures Tuesday night (Dec. 14) and lead the Seymour girls basketball team to a 59-55 victory over Columbus North. The game was close from start to finish, and, after a trio of early lead changes, the Owls led the rest of the way. Although Bull Dogs threatened on multiple occasions, closing to within two several times and one once in the fourth quarter, Seymour -- which shot 43 percent from the field and a perfect 13-of-13 from the line -- always had an answer. Thus, it handed Columbus North its first loss of the season. Senior Bridgette Jones scored 14 points and classmate Shayna Abel added 10 for the Owls, who won their seventh consecutive game after an opening-night loss. Sophomore Taylor Gossett chipped in eight points, sophomore Brianna Gillaspy netted five and junior Hannah Carmichael had two. Senior Courtney Larson tallied a game-high 21 points and sophomore Quin Shoultz had 10 points for the Bull Dogs (6-1), but they were the only players in double figures on a night when the visitors hit 38 percent from the field (19 of 50) and 79 percent from the line (15 of 19). Senior Tori Ashman and freshman Tayler Goodall each added six points, while junior Becca Brougher had five, senior Jocelyn Hamilton dropped in four, junior Molly Rinehart netted two and freshman Kelsey Cunningham had one for Columbus North. Shoultz also contributed a game-high 11 rebounds and Columbus North outrebounded the hosts 30-28, but Seymour's superior shooting negated that advantage and proved to be the difference. In the JV game, freshman Kenadie Carlson scored 10 points and Cunningham, junior Grace Snider and sophomore Morgan Palmer each had six as Columbus North prevailed 38-23. Columbus North returns to action at home Saturday (Dec. 18) when it tries improve a 2-0 league mark with in a Conference Indiana encounter against Lawrence Central (2-4, 0-1). The JV game begins at 1 p.m., and the varsity game will follow at about 2:30 p.m. VARSITY BOX SCORE At Seymour Columbus North -- Courtney Larson 7-18 5-5 21, Becca Brougher 2-5 1-2 5, Quin Shoultz 3-5 4-6 10, Tori Ashman 3-5 0-0 6, Jocelyn Hamilton 2-7 0-0 4, Molly Rinehart 0-1 2-2 2, Tayler Goodall 2-8 2-2 6, Kelsey Cunningham 0-1 1-2 1.
