Columbus North boys tennis moves to 2-0 in CI East Division

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Quality depth delivered in a big way for the second consecutive day Thursday (Sept. 4), leading the Columbus North boys tennis team to a 3-2 victory over visiting Perry Meridian.
Junior Kevin Luo at No. 3 singles and the doubles tandems of Jake Likens and Mitchell Miller as well as junior Daniel Larken and Nathan VanDeventer all produced quick wins as the No. 20 Bull Dogs moved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Conference Indiana East Division matches.
Luo knocked off Falcons sophomore Brian Carpenter 6-0, 6-1 for CN's first point. Likens and Miller followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Perry sophomore Devon Amos and junior Brian Schaler. Larken and VanDeventer clinched the decision with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Falcons juniors Alden Gifford and Conner Piratt.
Perry Meridian (4-2, 1-1) claimed its first point when junior Quinten Crouth topped CN junior Rahul Jha 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Falcons junior Andrew Denning battled to pull out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win over Bull Dogs senior Anthony Sanders in the final varsity match.
Luo and both CN doubles teams also prevailed on Wednesday (Sept. 3) when the Bull Dogs topped Columbus East 3-2.
At the JV level, Columbus North won 7-2.
The Bull Dogs return to action at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 6) when they visit No. 10 Center Grove. CN follows by facing Terre Haute South at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 9) in a neutral-site match at Bloomington North.
