Columbus North beats Franklin Central 2-0 in boys soccer

    COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Alan Rodriguez scored one goal and assisted on another Thursday evening (Sept. 4), lifting the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Franklin Central at Max Andress Field.
    Senior Brayton Thornburg broke the ice for the Bull Dogs, who scored twice in a 33-second span in the first half to improve to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0 in their Conference Indiana East Division opener.
    Thornburg's goal came with 18:07 left in the first half off an assist from Rodriguez. Not long later, with 17:34 left in the half, Rodriguez drove home a shot from about 18 yards with senior Jerrett Stark earning the assist.
    Junior Ty Bentham posted his second shutout in goal. He made four saves.
    Franklin Central dropped to 4-2-1 and 0-1 in CI divisional play.
    In the JV game, Columbus North used two second-half goals to win 2-0. Freshman Jannis Anderson scored the first goal, and sophomore Kaemon Jiles tallied the second.
    Columbus North returns to action at 11:30 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 6) when it hosts Westfield at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex. The Bull Dogs follow by traveling to play Southport at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday (Sept. 11) at Mary Bryan Elementary School in Indianapolis.
