Columbus North girls soccer routs Franklin Central 8-1

    COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Tamara Wurstle tallied two goals and three assists Wednesday evening (Sept. 3), leading the Columbus North girls soccer team to an 8-1 victory over Franklin Central at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
    Sophomore Addy Lang added two goals and two assists while sophomore Natalie Teo contributed one goal and one assist for the Bull Dogs, who jumped to a 4-1 lead in the first half en route to moving to 2-1-1 overall and 1-0 in Conference Indiana East Division.
    Senior Claire Chambers, sophomore Chloe Chambers and senior Laura Anne Watanabe also scored for the Bull Dogs, while junior Katie Carlson and senior Olivia Stewart each notched an assist. Senior Kyra Dasovich made two saves in 65 minutes and freshman Liz Tynan made one save in 15 minutes in goal for CN.
    Claire Chambers put Columbus North on the board in the 13th minute off a feed from Lang. Then Lang and Wurstle combined for a three-goal burst in a three-minute span to break the game open.
    Wurstle scored in the 28th minute with Lang getting the assist. Lang followed later in the 29th minute and 30th minutes, Wurstle being credited with assists on both goals.
    Franklin Central notched its only goal on a penalty kick by Emma Myers in the 37th minute before Columbus North resumed its barrage in the second half.
    Teo netted a goal with an assist from Stewart in the 65th minute, while Chloe Chambers scored in the 67th minute off an assist from Teo. Wurstle scored in the 71st minute off a feed from Carlson. Watanabe closed the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute with Wurstle assisting.
    Britni Bruno played the first 68 minutes in goal for the Flashes, yielding six goals while making 12 saves. Kelsey Heaton played the final 12 minutes, allowing two goals with four saves.
    In the JV game, freshman Kaitlyn Calandro scored two goals at Columbus North prevailed 2-1. Freshman Paige Beales added an assist, while Tynan played the entire game in goal and recorded five saves. Joylynn Bond scored for Franklin Central.
    The Bull Dogs return to action Saturday (Sept. 6) when they play in the Zionsville Invitational. The varsity faces Lexington Christian Academy at 11:30 a.m. and Westfield at 6:30 p.m. The JV also plays two games in the event.
