Columbus North volleyball edges Bloomington North 3-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Senior Alexa Pelley pin-pointed seven service aces and produced 40 digs Tuesday evening (Sept. 2), helping spark the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-2 victory at Bloomington North.
Senior Janelle Peters paced the Bull Dogs with 11 kills while classmate Karen Wildemann notched 10 kills, 38 assists and 13 digs as the Bull Dogs (5-2) overcame an early deficit an pulled out a 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-13 decision. The Cougars fell to 2-5.
Senior Makinsey Summa and sophomore Imani Guy each added five kills for CN. Junior Avery Wendel tallied six kills, and sophomore Maliah Howard-Bass had five kills.
Defensively, senior Hannah Vittorio tallied 10 digs and junior Grace Sonderman had nine digs to complement Pelley and Wildemann in the back row. Guy produced a team-best seven blocks, while Summa had five blocks and Wendel had three blocks on the front row in the marathon match.
In the JV match, junior Emily Pollitt posted seven kills and sophomore Mackenzie Rooks had seven digs, but it was not enough as CN fell 15-25, 25-22, 15-11 to the Cougars. Junior Hannah McKinney had four aces and 18 assists in the setback.
The Bloomington North freshman team defeated the Bull Dogs' C Team.
Columbus North returns to action Saturday (Sept. 6) when it competes in the North Central Invitational. CN faces Connersville at 9 a.m., Park Tudor at 11 a.m. and North Central at 1:30 p.m. in the four-team, round-robin event.
