Cathedral boys soccer blanks Columbus North 2-0

    INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Dan Mooney scored in the first half and classmate Justin Mitchell tallied in the second half Thursday evening (Aug. 28) to lift the Cathedral boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Columbus North.
    Mooney's goal came in the 31st minute, while Mitchell found the net in the 56th minute as the host Irish improved to 3-0 in the game played at Lawrence Park.
    Sophomore Jake Gruber posted the shutout for Cathedral, while Columbus North junior Ty Bentham recorded six saves while absorbing the loss in goal.
    The Bull Dogs (1-1) played more aggressively in the second half and outshot the hosts 6-3 after intermission. But none of the shots were able to get past Gruber.
    At the JV level, the teams played to a scoreless draw.
    Columbus North returns to action Saturday (Aug. 30) when it hosts Columbus East in the schools' annual quadruple-header at the Richard Wigh Complex. The JV girls' game begins at 2 p.m., the JV boys start at 4 p.m., the varsity girls at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys at 8 p.m.
