Columbus North girls golf finishes sixth in Hall of Fame Invitational

    BATESVILLE, Ind. -- Senior Sydney Anderson shot a 79 on Saturday (Aug. 23) to lead the Columbus North girls golf team to a sixth-place finish in the Hall of Fame Invitational at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club.
    Sophomore Holly Anderson contributed an 84 and freshman Danbi Kim carded an 85 for the Bull Dogs, who had a 346 team total in the 18-school event that featured a number of top programs from across the state.
    Sophomore Aubrey Smith shot a 98 for CN's fourth score, and freshman Julia Luken completed the Bull Dogs' lineup with a 108.
    Defending state champion Carmel, led by a 75 from senior Maggie Rees, had all five players under 90 to claim the event championship with a 327. Senior Alyssa Cook supported Rees with a 77, while Mackenzie George shot an 86 and Katie Boyler and Angie Kavanaugh each had an 89 for the Greyhounds.
    Hamilton Southeastern was second in the team standings with a 332 followed by Martinsville at 333, Yorktown at 338, Vincennes Rivet at 339 and Columbus North.
    Martinsville sophomore Claire Cameron was the individual medalist. She shot a 1-over-par 72, one stroke better than Yorktown senior Rachel Johnson. Rees placed third, Cook finished fourth and Hamilton Southeastern's Ciara McAree and Vincennes Rivet's Payton Meeks tied for fifth with 78s.
    CN's Sydney Anderson was in a three-way tie for seventh with her 79, while Holly Anderson tied for 15th with her 84 and Kim tied for 19th with her 85.
    The Bull Dogs return to action at 4:45 p.m. Monday (Aug. 25) when they face Bloomington North at Cascades Golf Course. They follow by facing Jennings County at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 26) at Ford's Crossing Golf Course.
