July 4, 2014Columbus North High School
Columbus North senior-to-be Sydney Anderson has committed to the University of Indianapolis in women's golf.
Anderson, a two-time state qualifier, chose the Greyhounds after also considering Indiana State and the University of Evansville.
As a junior, Anderson placed 17th in the IHSAA state meet with a 72-81--153 at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin. Earlier in the season, she claimed medalist honors at the Greensburg Sectional, tied for the top spot in the New Castle Regional and tied for second at the Conference Indiana championship. For the season, she averaged 75.87 strokes in eight 18-hole rounds with a best of 72.
As a sophomore, Anderson tied for 11th in the IHSAA state meet with a 77-74--151. In 2012, Anderson posted a 76.55 average in nine 18-hole rounds with a best of 73.
As a freshman, Anderson averaged 90.89 in nine 18-hole rounds.
Anderson expressed excitement about playing for Indianapolis, which placed fifth in the 2014 NCAA Division II nationals, and coach Brent Nicoson.
"The coach is amazing," Anderson told The Republic. "He's watched me since I was probably a sophomore. As soon as I visited, I knew that was my top choice for sure. I had a couple of other colleges that were looking at me, but it was a clear choice that UIndy was where I wanted to go."
Anderson is the fifth Columbus North athlete in the Class of 2015 to announce a college choice. Making announcements earlier were softball player Kelsay Lucas to Oakland University (Mich.), baseball player Devin Mann to Louisville, basketball player Ali Patberg to Notre Dame and soccer player Emma Risley to Indianapolis.
