Baum chosen as MVP of Columbus North baseball in 2014

Columbus North sophomore Canaan Baum was honored as MVP of the Bull Dogs' 2014 baseball team at its season-ending gathering Tuesday evening (June 17).
Baum set a single-season school record with 42 RBIs while hitting .374 with seven doubles, one triple and three home runs for a team that finished 23-6-1 and won a sectional championship. Baum also was recognized with the team's most valuable offensive player honor.
Others cited for special recognition were senior Will Dorenbusch, sophomore Collin Lollar, junior Devin Mann, sophomore Hunter Liggett, sophomore Brice McDaniel and junior Evan Finke.
Dorenbusch was recognized with the Bull Dog Award after he hit .283 with eight doubles one triple and 13 RBIs. He also received the team's Web Gem Award for the season's best individual defensive play.
Lollar was honored as the team's most valuable pitcher and as the team's top defensive player. Lollar compiled a 6-2 record with a 3.00 earned-run average with 58 strikeouts in 49.0 innings. He also went errorless in 53 chances for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Mann was recognized with the Big Stick Award and as the team's Quality At-Bat champion. He hit a team-best .433 with a school record 14 doubles, five triples, two home runs and 24 RBIs. He produced quality at-bats in 71.7 percent of his trips to the plate (76 of 106).
Liggett was cited as the team's most versatile player after playing second base, third base, shortstop, left field and right field. He hit .352 with six doubles, one triple and 18 RBIs.
McDaniel and Finke shared the team's Ball Magnet Award as each reached base on 10 hit-by-pitches. Finke was second on the team with a .426 average, while McDaniel was third with a .403 average.
Dorenbusch and Finke were honored as team captains.
On lower levels, sophomore Brett Bosserman was the Bull Dog Award winner for the JV while freshman Austin Gassaway was the Bull Dog Award winner for the freshman team.
Those recognized with varsity letters were seniors Will Dorenbusch, Christian Glass, Morgan Murdock and Michael Vogel; juniors Ben Baker, Cody Burton, Matt Cleveland, Jon Cox, Evan Finke, Josh Hogan, Devin Mann and manager Kendra Thixton; sophomores Canaan Baum, Hunter Liggett, Collin Lollar, Brice McDaniel and Ben Thompson; and freshmen Logan Jones, Wade Rankin, Cooper Trinkle and Nathan VanDeventer.
JV awards went to sophomores Jake Elwood, Brett Bosserman and Braeden Jones; and freshmen Korry Drum, Nolan Wetherald and Dylan Eggers.
Freshman Team accolades went to Jeremias Dela Cruz, Austin Gassaway, Liam Kelley, Triston Perry, Kyle Reardon and Brandon Turner.
