Smith selected as MVP of Columbus North girls tennis

Columbus North freshman Aubrey Smith was named MVP of the Bull Dogs' 2014 girls tennis team and the team banquet on Monday (June 9).
Smith, who posted a 14-11 overall record, was one of three athletes to receive special recognition at the season-ending gathering at the Northside Middle School cafeteria. Smith went 13-11 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 1 doubles. Her efforts helped CN earn a sectional championship and the No. 18 ranking in the final state poll with a 16-9 record.
Others cited were senior Sara Vanderkolk, who was presented the Bull Dog Award, and junior Sydney Anderson, who received the Sportsmanship Award.
Vanderkolk was 16-5 overall, 15-5 at No. 1 doubles and 1-0 at No. 2 singles. Anderson posted a 17-8 overall record, 16-8 at No. 1 doubles and 1-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Another highlight was recognizing Smith, sophomore Paige Littrell, Vanderkolk and Anderson as all-District 8 by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association. Smith and Littrell were cited in singles, while Vanderkolk and Anderson were honored as a doubles tandem.
All-State and Academic All-State teams have not yet been released by the IHSTeCA.
Vanderkolk and senior Annie Day were honored as team captains. They were joined as varsity letterwinners by juniors Sydney Anderson, Alex Friend, Meagan Olibo, Brooke Richardson and Rosemary Yonushonis; sophomore Paige Littrell; and freshman Aubrey Smith.
JV award winners were senior Caroline Wang; juniors Ali Bhadoria, Caitlyn Cain, Akina Minamikawa and Radhika Paliwal; sophomores Camille Chevalier, Hannah Frey, Lindsay Roese and Sharmikha Saravanan; and freshmen Sanhana Adur, Thais Cassola, Pragya Chandra, Shreya Hurli, Sai Pamidighantam, Ujwala Pamidiukkala and Hannah Shoemaker.
