Columbus North sending capable contingent to state track meets

Columbus North will send 18 athletes to compete in 11 events over two days at the IHSAA track & field state meets on Friday (June 6) and Saturday (June 7) at the Indiana University Robert C. Haugh Complex.
The girls open the competition on Friday, where the Bull Dogs have eight athletes competing in 10 spots in eight events. They include seniors Mackenzie Caldwell, who was third in the 2013 state meet in the 1,600 and 3,200, and Gabby Sims, third a year ago in the 400.
Both of them are back for those events. Caldwell is seeded eighth in the 3,200 and 14th in the 1,600. Sims is seeded 14th in the 400.
Other CN girls set to compete are senior Tessa Krempel, seeded ninth in the discus and 13th in the shot put; sophomore Sierra Lax, 11th in the 3,200; sophomore Katrina May, 11th in the pole vault; junior Debie Gedeon, 17th in the 100 hurdles; junior Olivia Malone, 19th in the 300 hurdles; and freshman Rachel Brougher, 22nd in the 1,600.
On Saturday, 10 Columbus North boys are eligible to run in events. They are headlined by senior Kaden Eaton, who is seeded third in the 1,600, and senior Andy Carr, who is seeded 11th in the 3,200. Junior Seth Williams also is in the 3,200, seeded 15th.
CN also earned the 18th seed in the boys' 4x800, and the Bull Dogs have eight runners eligible to run in the four spots -- Carr as well as seniors Andrew Baldwin, Michael Keller and Sam Ford, juniors Joseph Wright, Kyle Newland and Daniel Padilla, and sophomore Ben Rankin. Baldwin, Keller, Ford and Wright comprised the relay at the regional.
