COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Christian Glass doubled home two runs and pitched a five-hitter Tuesday (May 27), lifting the Class 4A No. 6 Columbus North baseball team to a 4-2 victory over visiting Bedford North Lawrence.
Freshman Cooper Trinkle went 2-for-2 with a double and a run, while junior Cody Burton went 2-for-3 with a run as the Bull Dogs (21-5-1) celebrated Senior Day with the victory.
Glass, Michael Vogel, Will Dorenbusch and Morgan Murdock were recognized in a pregame ceremony at the Southside Elementary School diamond.
Bedford North Lawrence took a 2-0 lead in the first, but Columbus North cut its deficit in half in the third when junior Devin Mann singled, stole second, stole third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Canaan Baum.
The Bull Dogs took the lead in the fourth inning. Burton, Dorenbusch and Trinkle each singled to load the bases, then Glass produced a two-run double to bring home Burton and Dorenbusch. Sophomore Collin Lollar added an RBI with a groundout to bring in Trinkle.
The Stars (14-14) threatened with runners reaching second and third with one out in the seventh, but Glass closed down the visitors with consecutive strikeouts to end the game.
