Columbus North baseball to play Bloomington North in sectional

The Columbus North baseball team drew a first-round bye and will meet Bloomington North on Friday (May 30) in the semifinals of the East Central Sectional.
The Class 4A No. 10 Bull Dogs are 17-5-1 through games of Monday (May 19), while Bloomington North is the three-time defending sectional champion.
The Class 4A sectional opens on Wednesday (May 28) with a pair of first-round games -- 4A No. 6 Shelbyville against Bloomington South at 6 p.m. and 4A No. 8 Columbus East against host East Central in the second game.
The first-round winners will play in the 6 p.m. game on Friday (May 30), with Columbus North and Bloomington North to follow.
The semifinal winners will square off at 6 p.m. Monday (June 2) to determine the sectional champion.
The sectional champ qualifies for the Evansville Regional on Saturday (June 7), where it will face the Evansville Reitz Sectional winner in the second semifinal. The first regional game will be sectional winners from New Albany and Whiteland.
The regional winner will advance to a semistate game on June 14 at either Jasper or Plainfield. The site and time of that game will be determined after the regionals.
The semistate winner will move to the IHSAA State Finals on June 20 or June 21 at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
Admission to the sectional is $6 per session or $9 for a three-session pass.
A total of 388 schools have entered teams in the baseball state tournament, 101 in Class 4A.
