COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Evan Finke drove in senior Christian Glass with a sacrifice fly Friday evening (May 16), lifting the Columbus North baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Roncalli at Southside Elementary School.
Finke's fly ball in the bottom of the seventh inning made a winner out of Glass, who pitched three innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory as the Class 4A No. 8 Bull Dogs improved to 14-5-1.
Junior Devin Mann scored three runs and tripled in his only official at-bat, while sophomore Canaan Baum was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Finke was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Glass and sophomore Hunter Liggett each had one hit.
Senior Austin Alte went 3-for-4 with a double for Roncalli (13-7). Junior Casey Gore doubled and tripled for the Rebels, while junior Drew Naumovich and sophomore Jake Franklin had one hit apiece.
Columbus North took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Mann walked, stole second and scored on a Baum single.
Roncalli took a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Sophomore Cody Smith was hit by a pitch, sophomore Robbie Strader walked and junior Tyler Schoettle reached on an error to load the bases. Naumovich then doubled home two runs.
The Bull Dogs drew even in the bottom of the third when Mann walked, Baum sacrificed him to second and Finke followed with an RBI single.
The Rebels went ahead 3-2 in the fourth when Gore tripled and scored on a passed ball.
CN tied the game again in the fifth when Mann tripled and Baum singled him home.
In the seventh, Glass led off with an infield hit and Lollar reached on a two-base error, Glass moving to third. Mann was intentionally walked and, after Baum struck out, Finke delivered a liner to left that scored Glass with the decisive run.
Columbus North returns to action at 10 a.m. Saturday (May 17) when it hosts Whiteland in a doubleheader. The Bull Dogs follow by visiting Southport at 6 p.m. Tuesday (May 20) in their final Conference Indiana game.
