COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Denisa Brooks drove in classmate Shannah Hercamp in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday (May 13), lifting the Columbus North softball team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Bloomington South at Northside Middle School.
Hercamp opened the inning with a double to left-center field. Sophomore Makayla Caudill attempted a sacrifice bunt, but she reached on a fielder's choice when the Panthers prevented Hercamp from advancing.
After two batters were retired, Brooks singled to bring home Hercamp and win the game -- the Bull Dogs moving to 13-8 for the season and 3-1 in Conference Indiana.
Bloomington South took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but Columbus North tied the game in the fourth when Brooks scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Tommi Stowers.
Hercamp finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Brooks was 2-for-4. Junior Sheana Wasilewski also had a hit for the Bull Dogs.
In the JV game, Columbus North prevailed 3-1. Two runs in the fifth proved decisive and made freshman Madisyn Prince the winning pitcher. She allowed five hits and struck out seven in a complete-game effort.
Columbus North returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 14) when its hosts Greensburg. The Bull Dogs close CI play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (May 15) when they face Southport at Holder Field.
