Columbus North softball beats Whiteland 6-1

    WHITELAND, Ind. -- The Columbus North softball team used four runs in the second inning and two more in the seventh inning on Saturday (May 10) to defeat Whiteland 6-1.
    The Bull Dogs produced 10 hits to improve to 12-8 for the season.
    Junior Kelsay Lucas opened the second with a double, and that was followed by singles from senior Shannah Hercamp, senior Grayson Harney, sophomore Sheana Wasilewski and senior Denisa Brooks. Sophomore Christine Bombardiere walks and sophomore Tommi Stowers eached as 10 batters came to the plate in the inning.
    The Warriors scored once in the fifth, but CN countered with two more runs in the seventh. Bombardiere, Stowers, Lucas and Harney all produced singles as the Bull Dogs added insurance runs.
    Harney was the winning pitcher, allowing just four hits.
    Columbus North returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday (May 13) when it hosts Bloomington South in a key Conference Indiana encounter. The Bull Dogs host Greensburg at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 14) and visit Southport at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (May 15) for their final CI contest of the season.
