Columbus North softball rallies to 4-2 win over Perry Meridian

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Kelsay Lucas doubled to drive in sophomore Christine Bombardiere with the go-ahead run Thursday (May 1), and the Columbus North softball team went on to post a 4-2 victory over Perry Meridian at the Northside Middle School diamond.
Sophomore Makayla Caudill also doubled and classmate Paige Deneve added an RBI for the Bull Dogs, who moved to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in Conference Indiana action. Senior Grayson Harney (4-1) hurled a five-hitter while striking out eight in a complete-game performance.
Columbus North took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore Katie Prall singled, advanced to second and came around to score when Bombardiere reached on an error.
The Falcons tied the game in the third when senior Brittany Schaler reached on error and classmate Maggie MacBeth followed with a double.
PM went ahead 2-1 in the fifth when Schaler doubled and MacBeth singled her home. But the Bull Dogs tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Caudill doubled to right field, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Harney and scored on Deneve's single to right.
Harney walked the Falcons senior Sam Amos to open the sixth, and Amos moved to second on a sacrifice. But Harney then fanned sophomore Megan Eder and enduced senior Jordan Bryant into a groundout to end the threat.
Bombardiere opened the bottom of the sixth with a single to center, and sophomore Tommi Stowers moved Bombardiere to second with a perfect sacrifice bunt. Lucas ripped a double to bring home the lead run. CN added an insurance run when Sheana Wasilewski, running for Lucas, advanced to third on a groundout and dashed home on a wild pitch.
Harney closed the contest with a 1-2-3 seventh on two groundouts and a strikeout of pinch-hitter Imani Sayeed.
At the JV level, sophomore Katelyn Boroughs went 3-for-3 with three runs while junior Alex Luse drove in four runs and sophomore Lillie Petro knocked in three more as Columbus North prevailed 13-2 in five innings. Petro allowed seven hits while picking up the win from the circle.
Columbus North returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Friday (May 2) when it visits Seymour in the makeup of a game originally scheduled for April 15. The Bull Dogs follow by hosting Edinburgh at 5 p.m. Monday (May 5).
