Columbus North blanks Greensburg 5-0 in girls tennis

    GREENSBURG, Ind. -- Freshman Aubrey Smith and junior Rosemary Yonushonis dropped just two games each in a pair of singles matches Wednesday (April 30), leading the No. 16 Columbus North girls tennis team to a 5-0 decision at Greensburg.
    Smith blitzed the Pirates' Danielle Schroeder 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Yonushonis whipped Greensburg's Tiffany Springmeyer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles as the Bull Dogs improved to 9-4.
    CN sophomore Paige Littrell was nearly as efficient, beating the Pirates' Olivia Slusher 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
    In doubles, senior Sara Vanderkolk and junior Sydney Anderson as well as juniors Meagan Olibo and Brooke Richardson prevailed for Columbus North. Vanderkolk and Anderson beat Greensburg's Caroline Pratt and Claire Welage 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Olibo and Richardson topped the Pirates' Abigail Bailey and Courtney Nelson 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
    At the JV level, Columbus North defeated the Pirates 7-1.
    Columbus North returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (May 1) when it hosts Perry Meridian in a Conference Indiana match. The Bull Dogs are off over the weekend, then travel to Center Grove at 5 p.m. Monday (May 5).
