COLUMBUS, Ind. -- The Columbus North-Bloomington North baseball game was suspended because of darkness with the score tied 5-5 after seven innings on Tuesday (April 22).
In a game that did not begin until about 6:30 p.m., the Bull Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior Devin Mann led off with a triple and sophomore Canaan Baum followed with a sacrifice fly.
CN held that lead through five innings at its diamond at Southside Elementary School, but the Cougars erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth.
Senior Pete Allen started the inning by reaching on an error. Senior Matt Tiller was hit by pitch and sophomore Jonathan Inman drew a walk to load the bases.
Senior Dylan Stutsman drew a walk to force a run in, and Tiller scored on a passed ball. Senior Zach Cleaver then singled a run home, senior Max Williams doubled in a run and senior Blake Richardson lofted a sacrifice fly to complete the burst.
Columbus North countered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Mann opened the rally when he was hit by a pitch. After Baum bounced out, Mann moving to second, sophomore Brice McDaniel singled Mann to third. Junior Evan Finke was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and junior Cody Burton singled Mann home.
Senior Will Dorenbusch reached on an error, McDaniel and Finke scoring. Sophomore Hunter Liggett then lined to center field, Burton scoring on the play but Dorenbusch being thrown out at third to end the inning.
Neither team scored in the seventh, and the umpires decided it was too dark to continue.
It was not announced when the game will be resumed.
The Bull Dogs return to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (April 23) when they visit Franklin Central. CN then has eight days off before hosting Lawrence Central on May 1.
