Columbus North girls tennis defeats Franklin Central 4-1

    INDIANAPOLIS -- Freshman Aubrey Smith made quick work of her opponent at No. 1 singles Tuesday (April 22), sparking the No. 17 Columbus North girls tennis team to a 4-1 victory at Franklin Central.
    Smith blitzed FC's Addison Laker 6-0, 6-0 as the Bull Dogs moved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in Conference Indiana matches.
    Sophomore Paige Littrell prevailed at No. 2 singles, defeating the Flashes' Allison Humberd 6-3, 7-6 (7-6).
    CN also swept the doubles with senior Sara Vanderkolk and junior Sydney Anderson as well as juniors Alex Friend and Rosemary Yonushonis doing the honors. Vanderkolk and Anderson defeated FC's Hannah Humbird and Meaghan Couch 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Friend and Yonushonis knocked off the Flashes' Melanie Justice and Jamie Conrad at No. 2 doubles.
    Franklin Central dropped to 0-2 in league play.
    Columbus North took a 7-3 decision in the JV competition.
    The Bull Dogs return to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday (April 23) when they visit No. 2 North Central. CN follows by hosting Lawrence Central at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (April 24).
