Columbus North softball splits in Brown County Invitational

April 22, 2014
Columbus North High School

NASHVILLE, Ind. -- Sophomore Tommi Stowers went 3-for-3 with a double and triple on Saturday (April 19), helping the Columbus North softball team to a 6-3 victory over Brownstown Central in the third-place game of the Brown County Invitational.
One of Stowers' hits actually was a shot over the fence, but a runner ahead of her was called out for missing home plate. That was the third out of the inning, so Stowers was credited with a triple.
Senior Denisa Brooks went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while sophomore Christine Bombardiere was 2-for-2 with a double for the Bull Dogs (4-4). Sophomore Katie Prall added a triple, while senior Shannah Hercamp had a double and two RBIs and junior Kelsay Lucas had two RBIs.
Bombardiere pitched five innings for the win, while senior Grayson Harney hurled the final two for a save.
In the opener, Lucas and Stowers stroked back-to-back doubles for a run in the fourth inning, but that was the Bull Dogs' only run in a 6-1 loss to Hauser.
The Jets used three runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth to prevail.
At the JV level, Columbus North split a doubleheader at home against Martinsville. The Bull Dogs defeated the Artesians 9-7 in the opener as junior Alex Luse, freshman Madisyn Prince and junior Allie Carr each had two hits and two RBIs. Martinsville won the second game 14-3 in five innings. Sophomore Lillie Petro had two hits, and freshman Kaitlyn Panning had two RBIs for CN.
Columbus North returns to action at 5 p.m. Monday (April 21) when its hosts Columbus East at the Northside Middle School diamond. CN follows with road games on Tuesday (April 22) at Franklin Central and Wednesday (April 23) at East Central. The Bull Dogs will compete in the Center Grove Invitational on Saturday (April 26) -- games against Greenwood, Roncalli and Center Grove.
