Columbus North girls tennis goes 1-2 in Floyd Central Invitational

    FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. -- Junior Meagan Olibo won a pair of singles matches, and classmate Rosemary Yonushonis prevailed in two doubles matches on Saturday (April 12) as the Columbus North girls tennis team went 1-2 in the Floyd Central Invitational.
    The No. 16 Bull Dogs (2-2) defeated No. 12 Bloomington South 4-1 in their second of three matches in the four-team, round-robin event. In other matches, No. 22 Floyd Central defeated Columbus North 3-2 and No. 3 Evansville Memorial blanked the Bull Dogs 5-0.
    Olibo claimed wins at No. 3 singles against Floyd Central's Kaitlyn Little and Bloomington South's Cianna Kennedy. She defeated Little 6-3, 2-6, 10-5, and she beat Kennedy 6-2, 6-3.
    Yonushonis teamed with junior Brooke Richardson to beat Floyd Central's Kylie Wheeler and Madison Woosley 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Yonushonis paired with junior Sydney Anderson to top Bloomington South's Louisa Hauskrecht  and Meg Shishman 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
    Freshman Aubrey Smith went 1-2 at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Paige Littrell was 1-2 at No. 2 singles for Columbus North. Smith defeated Bloomington South's Kacy Poore 3-6, 6-0, 10-5, while Littrell defeated Bloomington South's Madia Ianello 7-5, 6-3.
    The Bull Dogs competed well against Floyd Central and had a chance to prevail when Littrell led in her third-set tiebreaker. However, the Highlanders' Alexis Applegate rallied to top Littrell 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 and give the hosts the match.
    CN's win over Bloomington South came with an asterisk as the Panthers' usual top two players -- Denise Azcui and Lauren Whitlatch -- did not compete.
    Columbus North returns to action at 4:30 p.m. Monday (April 14) when it visits Columbus East. The Bull Dogs follow by hosting Bloomington North at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (April 17).
