Jones honored as MVP of Columbus North wrestling team

Columbus North senior Andrew Jones was recognized as MVP of the Bull Dogs' 2013-14 wrestling team at the team banquet on Tuesday evening (March 25).
Jones, who advanced to the IHSAA State Finals in the 152-pound class, was one of four athletes to receive presentations at the season-ending gathering in the CN cafeteria.
Senior Luke Teague, senior Kenny King and freshman Cameron Corbin were recipients of other special awards. Teague was the winner of the Bull Dog Award. King was presented the Larry Perkinson Mental Attitude Award. Corbin received the Brandon Shehan Award as the team's outstanding freshman who also displayed excellent sportsmanship and a strong work ethic.
Jones was the team's top wrestler and posted a 34-10 record for the season. He was a sectional and regional champion and placed fourth at the Evansville Semistate. In addition to being chosen MVP, he also was selected as the team's Most Improved Athlete.
Teague and King also advanced to the Evansville Semistate. Teague compiled a 28-10 record at 182 pounds with sectional and regional crowns. King amassed a 28-19 mark at 285 pounds while placing third in the sectional and fourth in the regional.
Corbin posted a 15-18 record at 195 pounds with a sixth-place finish in the sectional.
Jones also was cited with several statistical awards. Those included best record, most pins and most takedowns.
The following athletes were recognized as varsity lettermen -- seniors Mason Day, Andrew Jones, Kenning King, Jacob Lashley, Luke Teague and triplets Cody, Evan and Will Speaker; juniors Braden Hinckley, Jake Larson and Brandon Woods; sophomores Brett Bosserman and Jessee Holt; and freshman Cameron Corbin.
