COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Columbus East senior Noblitt posted a 16-8 win over Columbus North sophomore Jessee Holt at 132 pounds Wednesday evening (Jan. 15), lifting the Olympians to a 30-28 high school wrestling victory in Memorial Gym.
Dalton's decision allowed the visitors to overcome a two-point deficit going into the final match. That came after Bull Dogs senior Cody Speaker had given the home team a 28-26 edge with a pin of East freshman Stuart Bryan at 126 pounds.
Columbus North built an early 10-0 lead with decisions by junior Braden Hinckley at 138 pounds, senior Jacob Lashley at 145 pounds and a major decision by senior Andrew Jones at 152 pounds.
However, the Olympians tied the contest in just two matches, East senior Maurice Dantzler pinning CN senior Mason Day at 150 pounds and East senior Jimmy Fishcer claiming a 9-1 major decision over CN junior Jake Larson at 170 pounds.
Bull Dogs senior Luke Teague gave the hosts a 13-10 lead with a decision at 182 pounds, but the Olympians countered for a 14-13 edge when East sophomore Quade Griewe took a major decision at 195 pounds.
CN regained the team lead when junior Brandon Woods won at 220 pounds, but East went back in front when sophomore Sean Galligar captured a 7-5 decision over North senior Kenny King at 285 pounds.
The Bull Dogs fell behind 23-16 when they forfeited the 106-pound weight class, but the hosts closed the gap to 23-22 when senior Evan Speaker produced a pin at 113 pounds.
Olympians sophomore Jacob Martindale pushed the visitors' lead to 26-22 with a 9-3 decision over CN senior Will Speaker at 120 pounds, setting the stage for the final two matches. Cody Speaker's pin at 126 gave the Bull Dogs the lead, but Noblitt's win over Holt gave the visitors the match.
Columbus North, which finishes its dual meet season at 13-10, returns to action at 9 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 18) when it competes in the Conference Indiana championships at Bloomington South.
