Red honored as MVP of 2013 Columbus North boys tennis

Senior Luke Red was honored as MVP of the Columbus North boys tennis team as the squad's season-ending gathering on Tuesday (Oct. 29).
Red, who was selected second-team all-state in singles by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association, amassed a 17-5 in the 2013 season for a team that went 19-1 and claimed sectional and regional championships.
Red also was named the winner of the Bull Dog Award, while juniors Jake Likens and Anthony Sanders as well as sophomores Kevin Luo and Aditya Mantri were cited for collecting all-state accolades.
Likens and Sanders teams at No. 1 doubles, posting at 21-2 record and being chosen as a first-team all-state doubles team. Luo and Mantri were 12-1 as a tandem at No. 2 doubles, and they were selected as doubles honorable mention all-state. Luo also was 18-3 in all matches, while Mantri was 20-2 in all matches.
Earlier, Red was chosen first-team all-District 8 in singles, while Likens/Sanders and Luo/Mantri were selected first-team all-District 8 in doubles. In addition, CN's Kendal Hammel was selected District 8 Coach of the Year.
Another honoree at the banquet was Krishan Narsinghani, who was recognized with the team's Sportsmanship Award. Narsinghani posted a 10-12 overall record -- 0-1 at No. 1 singles, 9-11 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 3 singles.
Red and Narsinghani were recognized as team captains, while they were among 12 athletes who received varsity letters.
Other letter winners were seniors Sam Heale, Nick Littrell, Kamal Maharjan and Stephen Malburg; juniors Jake Likens, Mitchell Miller and Anthony Sanders; and sophomores Rahul Jha, Kevin Luo and Aditya Mantri.
Those recognized as JV team members were senior Erick Bernal; juniors Nick Burch, Chris George and Umar Qureshi; sophomores Harrison Kirsch, Matt Klave, Daniel Larken and Logan Palmer; and freshmen Anay Gangal, Lucas Huang, Neev Kadakia, Tamim Noor, Walker Thomas, Cam Thomason and Jonathan Ward.
Red and Narsinghani also were cited for being recognized IHSTeCA honorable mention Academic All-State.
