Columbus North volleyball slides past Southport 3-0

INDIANAPOLIS -- Junior Makinsey Summa pounded down 13 kills and classmate Janelle Peters added eight kills Tuesday evening (Oct. 15), leading the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-0 victory at Southport.
Sophomore Avery Wendel chipped in five kills, while senior Devon Roese contributed three service aces and a team-high 15 digs as the Bull Dogs prevailed 25-20, 25-22, 25-17 to improve to 11-19 overall and complete Conference Indiana action at 2-3.
Junior Karen Wildemann provided 24 assists and eight digs. Junior Hannah Vittorio had six digs, and junior Hayley McMahan provided two aces.
Senior Bailey Brothers notched 16 kills and senior Dabney Skutt had nine kills to lead Southport (10-14, 0-5). Junior Brooke Jenkins tallied 18 digs and Skutt had 14 digs for the Cardinals.
The Bull Dogs also won both sub-varsity matches.
Juniors Taylor Stamper and Autumn Kavelman each netted seven kills as the JV rallied for a 20-25, 25-17, 15-13 victory. Stamper added four aces, while sophomore Rachel Copeland had three aces. Sophomore Hannah McKinney produced 17 assists.
At the freshman level, Hannah Weaver tallied four kills while Alisha Adams had seven assists to lead Columbus North to a 25-11, 25-14 decision. Also, Mackenzie Rooks was 10-of-10 on serves.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday when it visits Class 4A No. 7 Seymour for a tripleheader. JV and freshman matches begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV at about 7 p.m.
