Franklin volleyball defeats Columbus North 3-1

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Makinsey Summa recorded 11 kills and classmate Janelle Peters added nine more Thursday evening (Oct. 10), but it wasn't enough as the Columbus North volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Franklin.
Junior Karen Wildemann contributed 28 assists and 15 digs for the Bull Dogs, who dropped to 8-17 with the 25-13, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21 setback. Senior Devon Roese also had 15 digs, while Peters chipped in 13 digs.
The Class 4A No. 10 Lady Cubs improved to 21-4.
Columbus North captured both sub-varsity matches.
Junior Taylor Stamper, sophomore Shelby Stamper and junior Autumn Kavelman each notched five kills as the Bull Dogs' JV prevailed 25-19, 25-16. Sophomore Hannah McKinney provided 11 assists, while sophomore Grace Sonderman provided four aces and 11 digs.
In the freshman match, Imani Guy notched five kills and Hannah Weaver added two as Columbus North won 23-25, 25-24, 15-9. Karli Reynolds chipped in five aces, while Madelin Johnson had five assists.
The Columbus North varsity returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 12) when it competes in the Columbus North Invitational. The Bull Dogs face Shelbyville at 9 a.m. and follow with matches against Franklin, Jasper and Harrison (West Lafayette) in the seven-team event. Class 4A No. 2 Avon and 4A No. 9 Columbus East complete the field.
The CN varsity, JV and freshmen are back on court Tuesday (Oct. 15) at Southport for their final Conference Indiana match of the season. JV and freshmen matches are at 6 p.m. The varsity follows the JV at about 7 p.m.
