Columbus North volleyball places sixth at Muncie Central Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Junior Janelle Peters produced nine kills, while classmate Karen Wildemann contributed five blocks, two aces and 35 assists over four matches as the Columbus North volleyball team placed sixth Saturday (Sept. 28) in the Muncie Central Invitational.
Junior Makinsey Summa added seven kills and four blocks for the Bull Dogs, who opened the eight-team tournament with a 25-15, 25-19 victory over Shenandoah.
Sophomore Avery Wendel tallied five kills and two blocks, while freshman Maliah Howard had four kills as CN completed pool play with a 25-13, 25-20 setback to Elkhart Memorial and a 25-14, 25-14 loss to Muncie Central.
Senior Devon Roese chipped in 20 digs and two aces, while junior Alexa Pelley provided 19 digs and junior Hannah Vittorio had 18 digs.
In the fifth-place match, Columbus East defeated Columbus North 25-23, 25-16. The Bull Dogs went 1-3 for the day and moved to 8-14 for the season following the event.
"We played tough and competed," CN coach Caitlin Greiner said of her team.
Undefeated Yorktown went 4-0 in the tournament, beating host Muncie Central 25-16, 25-14 for the tournament championship. Lawrence North topped Elkhart Memorial in the third-place match, and LaPorte beat Shenandoah in the seventh-place match.
Yorktown finished the event with a 23-0 record, Muncie Central 11-8, Lawrence North 16-6, Elkhart Memorial 14-7, LaPorte 14-6 and Shenandoah 9-16.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 3) when it visits rival Columbus East for its annual intra-city competition. JV and freshman matches will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV at about 6:30 p.m.
