Columbus North freshman, JV football teams split with Terre Haute North

Tanner Payne passed for three touchdowns and Cameron Wilson found the end zone twice Saturday (Sept. 28), leading the Columbus North freshman football team to a 41-6 victory at Terre Haute North.
Cooper Trinkle added a touchdown and also intercepted a pass for the Bull Dog rookies, who improved to 6-0 for the season.
Payne's scoring passes covered 30, 62 and 25 yards and went to DeShawn Hunter, Wilson and Trinkle.
Wilson opened the scoring with a 10-yard TD run, and Payne followed with a 30-yard connection with Hunter.
Mitchell Burton followed with a 55-yard scoring jaunt, then Payne contributed TD passes of 62 yards to Wilson and 25 yards to Trinkle.
Cameron Hofelich closed the CN scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run, while Misael Garcia converted 5-of-6 extra-point kicks.
Defensively, Trinkle's interception and a Grant Byers' forced fumble were highlights.
In the JV game at Max Andress Field in Columbus, Terre Haute North prevailed 14-6. The Bull Dogs' scored on a TD pass from sophomore Mitchell Kelley to junior Michael Behling. Junior Nick Sharp grabbed an interception on defense for Columbus North (4-2).
The Columbus North JV returns to action 10 a.m. next Saturday (Oct. 5) at Perry Meridian. The CN freshman host Perry Meridian at 10 a.m. next Saturday (Oct. 5).
