Columbus North-Columbus East to meet in boys soccer sectional opener

The Columbus North boys soccer team will face rival Columbus East in a first-round game of the Columbus North Sectional.
Pairings were drawn Friday (Sept. 27) by the IHSAA, and the Class 2A defending state champion Bull Dogs will begin postseason play against the Olympians at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7.
Semifinals are set for Wednesday, Oct. 9. Seymour will face Charlestown in the 6 p.m. opener. Scottsburg will play the Columbus North-Columbus East winner in the second semifinal.
The sectional championship game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
Sectional admission is $6 per session and $9 for an all-session ticket.
Columbus North has won the past six sectionals and 11 overall since the IHSAA began holding a state soccer tournament in 1994.
The sectional winner advances to the Columbus North Regional, which will be played Oct. 17 and 19. Sectional winners from Richmond and Madison will play in the regional opener at 6 p.m. Oct. 17. Sectional winners from Bloomington North and Columbus North square off in the second regional game on Oct. 17. The regional final is set for 2 p.m. Oct. 19.
The regional winner advances to the Evansville Semistate on Oct. 26. Regional winners from Washington and Mt. Vernon (Fortville) play in one semifinal. Regional winners from Columbus North and North Central meet in the second semifinal. The semistate champion will be determined later the same day.
The semistate winner qualifies for the IHSAA State Finals, which will be Nov. 2 at Michael A. Carroll Stadium at IUPUI in Indianapolis. The Class 2A championship game is at 6 p.m.
