Abedian, Belding lift Columbus North boys soccer to victory

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Andre Abedian scored a goal and added an assist Tuesday evening (Sept. 24), leading the Class 2A No. 1 Columbus North boys soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Bloomington South.
Senior Riley Belding added a pair of assists for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 10-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in Conference Indiana at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Senior Parker Hirsch gave Columbus North a 1-0 lead in the first half, converting a pass from Abedian in the 20th minute.
Abedian scored on a header in the 59th minute for a 2-0 advantage, finding the net off a Belding corner kick.
Senior Ethan Smith sealed the outcom in the 67th minute, finishing off a feed from Belding.
Senior Matt Verplank made two saves over the first 69 minutes in goal for the Bull Dogs. Senior Ben Davis completed the final 11 minutes of the shutout without making any saves.
Bloomington South won the JV game 2-0. CN freshman Mark Tabor made 11 saves while playing a complete game in goal.
Columbus North returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 26) when it faces Southport in another CI contest at Mary Bryan Elementary School in Indianapolis. The Bull Dogs follow with a makeup game against Perry Meridian, the team's final league game of the season, at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 27) at the Wigh Complex.
