4A No. 10 Perry Meridian defeats Columbus North 3-0 in volleyball

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Cassie Baird pounded down 11 kills and junior Sarah Clem added 10 more Tuesday evening (Sept. 17), leading the Perry Meridian volleyball team to a 3-0 victory at Columbus North.
Sophomore Riley Taylor contributed 33 assists and junior Abbey Ketchum chipped in 13 digs for the Class 4A No. 10 Falcons, who moved to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in Conference Indiana with the 25-22, 25-13, 25-22 decision.
Junior Makinsey Summa posted a match-high 13 kills for the Bull Dogs, who competed well in two of the three sets but dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in league contests. Junior Alexa Pelley had 16 digs, while classmate Karen Wildemann tallied 14 assists and 15 digs.
Perry Meridian also won both sub-varsity matches.
The Falcons won 25-20, 25-13 at the JV level. Sophomore Olivia Teague notched four kills, while junior Autumn Kavelman had three kills and five digs for the Columbus North JV. Sophomore Hannah McKinney pitched in eight assists and five digs, while sophomore Grace Sonderman tallied nine digs.
At the freshman level, Perry rallied for a 17-25, 25-10, 15-14 victory. Imani Guy paced the CN rookies with eight kills. Mackenzie Rooks added six aces and Alisha Adams had 13 assists for the Bull Dogs.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 19) when it hosts Class 3A No. 10 Brownstown Central in a varsity-JV-freshman tripleheader. JV and freshman matches begin at 6 p.m. and the varsity follows the JV at about 7 p.m.
The Bull Dogs compete in the New Albany Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 21). CN will face Castle, Floyd Central and Brownstown Central in pool-play matches. It will face either New Albany, Jasper, Silver Creek or Jeffersonville in a placement-round match.
