Columbus East edges Columbus North 3-2 in girls soccer

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Rachel Amlung scored two goals and Bailey Dowd added one Monday evening (Sept. 16), sparking the Columbus East girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Columbus North at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
The victory was the first for the Olympians over the Bull Dogs since a 1-0 decision in the 2006 sectional.
Senior Gabby Sims and senior Kenadie Carlson each scored for Columbus North, which twice battled back from one-goal deficits to tie the game. But Dowd snapped a 2-2 deadlock in the 67th minute to give the victory to the Olympians (9-0-1).
Senior Spencer Eudy played the entire game in goal for Columbus East and was credited with four saves. Freshman Charlotte Verbanic played all 80 minutes in goal for Columbus North.
The Bull Dogs (7-2-0) return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 18) when they host Perry Meridian in a Conference Indiana contest. They follow by competing Saturday (Sept. 21) in the Fort Wayne Canterbury Invitational, 11 a.m. vs. Penn and 3:30 p.m. vs. Northridge.
