GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Junior Makinsey Summa recorded eight kills, five service aces and two blocks Thursday evening (Sept. 12), but it was not enough as the Columbus North volleyball team lost 3-0 at Center Grove.
Junior Karen Wildemann contributed four aces, 12 digs and 13 assists for the Bull Dogs, who fell 25-12, 25-16, 25-14 to the Trojans.
Juniors Hannah Vittorio and Alexa Pelley each added five digs for CN.
"We started out slow and never got the momentum turned to our side of the court," CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. "Makinsey Summa was a huge asset to our offense, and we lost a lot of energy when she left the front row. Karen Wildemann did a good job of feeding our hitters, but we could not put a ball away."
Junior Ali Line produced 12 kills and sophomore Taylor Hammill had 28 assists to lead the Trojans (5-8).
Center Grove also prevailed in both sub-varsity matches.
The Trojans won 25-12, 25-22 at the JV level. Junior Taylor Stamper and sophomore Olivia Teague each collected three kills, while junior Sarah Boldrey and sophomore Anne Marie Kiel each posted a pair of aces for the Bull Dogs. Sophomore Hannah McKinney chipped in seven assists. Boldrey had seven digs, and junior Autumn Kavelman had six digs.
At the freshman level, Center Grove claimed a 25-21, 25-16 decision. Madelin Johnson guided CN with 36 assists.
Columbus North (4-4) returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 14) when it competes in the Jennings County Invitational. The Bull Dogs face Southwestern (Shelby) in their 9 a.m. opener. They follow with matches against Jennings County at about 10 a.m. and against Ben Davis at about 11 a.m.
