COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Luke Red, sophomore Rahul Jha and a pair of doubles tandems prevailed in straight sets on Wednesday (Sept. 4), propelling the No. 13 Columbus North boys tennis team to a 4-1 victory over rival Columbus East.
Red knocked off the Olympians' Seth Myers 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Jha defeated East's Jo Jo Woolwine 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles as the Bull Dogs moved to 4-0 in dual matches.
Both CN doubles teams, juniors Anthony Sanders and Jake Likens as well as sophomores Aditya Mantri and Kevin Luo, also posted quick decisions. Sanders and Likens beat the Olympians Alex Pegram and Sammy Woolwine 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Mantri and Luo topped East's Alex Galle and Matt Furnish 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
East's Matt Fuehne posted his team's only point, rallying past North senior Krishan Narsinghani 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 2 singles.
"We came out playing well right off the bat in all positions," Columbus North coach Kendal Hammel said. "We did not show nerves or commit unforced errors. I thought all (our guys) did a good job of playing aggressive and confident during the matches and took care of match plans.
"It was a good win for us, but we still have more to improve."
Columbus East won the JV competition 6-5; the Columbus North JV match record fell to 3-1.
The Bull Dogs return to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 5) when they host Lawrence Central. They follow by hosting Center Grove at 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 7).
