COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Juniors Janelle Peters and Makinsey Summa combined for 21 kills Thursday evening (Aug. 29), sparking the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over visiting Heritage Christian.
Peters pounded down 11 kills, while Summa notched 10 and senior Tessa Krempel added nine as the Bull Dogs moved to 2-1 with a 16-25, 25-17, 28-26, 25-19 decision over the Eagles.
Junior Karen Wildemann set the offense with 34 assists.
Freshman Maliah Howard tallied 10 digs and senior Devon Roese had nine digs to pace the CN defense.
"After coming out flat in Game 1, we stepped up our intensity and controlled the match," Columbus North coach Caitlin Greiner said. "Karen and Maliah did a great job shutting down their outside hitters with a strong block, while Makinsey Summa had another outstanding match and Alexa Pelley and Hannah Vittorio did an excellent job passing and playing defense.
"Overall, I was very pleased with our team's ability to come back and fight after a tough loss in Game 1. This was a good win for us. Heritage Christian is a good team."
Columbus North swept the sub-varsity matches, too.
Junior Taylor Stamper tallied seven kills and classmate Autumn Kavelman had four as the Bull Dogs' JV prevailed 25-23, 25-17. Kavelman and sophomore Hannah McKinney each contributed two aces, while sophomore Grace Sonderman had 17 digs.
At the freshman level, Hannah Weaver produced four kills while Mackenzie Rooks and Imani Guy each had three as CN took a 25-17, 25-19 victory. Karli Reynolds provided four aces, while Rooks had four digs and Reynolds had three dicks. Madelin Johnson set the offense with 11 assists.
