Columbus North volleyball beats Bloomington North 3-1

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Makinsey Summa pounded down 16 kills and senior Tessa Krempel added 11 more Tuesday evening (Aug. 27), leading the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Bloomington North in the Conference Indiana opener for both teams.
Junior Janelle Peters chipped in nine kills for the Bull Dogs, who overcame a first-set setback to prevail 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-16.
Junior Karen Wildemann contributed 30 assists, two service aces and 16 digs for CN (1-1 overall, 1-0 in league play). Junior Hannah Vittorio produced two aces and 13 digs for the winners, while senior Devon Roese added 16 digs to the defensive effort.
"I thought the girls did a great job executing our game plan," CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. "Karen ran the offense well with the help of good passes from our back row. We stayed aggressive and kept the pressure on Bloomington North throughout the whole match.
"Makinsey Summa had some huge hits, and Tessa Krempel made smart choices in the front row."
Sari Kamen posted 10 kills and Emily DeMoss six to lead the offense for the Cougars (0-4, 0-1). Bloomington North's Allison Donham was credited with 36 digs, while Kelley Wisley tallied. 24 assists.
The teams split the sub-varsity matches.
Bloomington North took the JV match 25-10, 24-25, 15-14 as the Columbus North JV fell to 1-1 for the season. Junior Autumn Kavelman led the Bull Dogs five kills and five digs, while sophomore Shelby Stamper recorded four kills. Sophomore Grace Sonderman provided three aces and five digs, while sophomore Hannah McKinney had 10 assists.
In the freshman match, Columbus North won 25-13, 25-13 to move to 2-1 for the season. Imani Guy paced CN with six kills, while Karli Reynolds produced six aces. Madelin Johnson set the attack with 14 assists.
The Bull Dogs return to action on Thursday (Aug. 29) when they host Heritage Christian in a varsity-JV-freshman tripleheader. JV and freshman matches begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV at about 7 p.m.
