Home » Gymnastics NewsColumbus North gymnasts soar on Senior NightFebruary 21, 2013 Columbus North High School COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Chelsea Wieland won two events and the all-around crown Wednesday evening (Feb. 20), leading the Columbus North gymnastics team to a victory in a three-team competition.
Senior Danielle McDermott also captured two blue ribbons for the Bull Dogs, who celebrated Senior Night with a season-best 111.450 points. Owen Valley was second with 101.575 points and Jeffersonville was third with 92.775 points.
"It was a very good night," CN coach Bob Arthur said. "It appears we are peaking at the right time. It was a good performance with sectionals coming soon."
Wieland won the balance beam with a score of 9.300 and also took the floor exercise with a 9.575. Those totals, combined with a 9.175 on vault and a 9.075 on uneven parallel bars gave her a winning all-around mark of 37.125.
"Being Senior Night and her last home meet, I'm sure Chelsea was very pleased," Arthur said.
McDermott claimed the top prize on vault with a 9.450 and bars with a 9.550. She also was second on floor with a 9.250 and placed fourth in the all-around with a 36.400.
CN freshman Katrina May placed second in all-around with a 37.075, while Owen Valley's Anna Watkin was third with a 36.650. CN junior Megan Heathcote was fifth with a 36.100.
The Bull Dogs return to action at 7 p.m. next Friday (March 1) when they compete in the Columbus East Sectional.
