Columbus North gymnasts win Connersville Invitational

    CONNERSVILLE, Ind. -- Senior Danielle McDermott won two events and the all-around Saturday (Feb. 9), leading the Columbus North gymnastics team to the championship of the Connersville Invitational.
    The Bull Dogs produced a season-best 109.400 team score in the six-school competition.
    Connersville was second with a 104.700 followed by Noblesville at 100.675, Hagerstown at 99.450 and Northwestern at 90.175. Muncie South fielded an incomplete squad and scored 17.225 points.
    McDermott won the vault with a 9.300 and the uneven parallel bars with a 9.450. That helped her to a winning score of 36.950 in the all-around.
    Senior Chelsea Wieland took blue ribbons on balance beam with a 9.400 and on floor exercise with a 9.200.
    Freshman Katrina May was third in the all-around with a 35.700, while Wieland was fourth with a 35.325 and junior Megan Heathcote was fifth with a 34.775.
